Deep Pocket Cutting Saddle

We are, as our name suggests, a custom saddle maker.  We build fine, quality, handcrafted western saddles and tack for everything you can do "western" on a horse.  If you came expecting to find the typical, ordinary, hum-drum western saddles, you might be disappointed.  There is nothing ordinary about our extraordinary works of artEach saddle we build is individually handcrafted with one type of buyer in mind. . . the discriminating horseman or horsewoman who demands the very best for themselves and insists on the best of equipment for their horses.

We have the greatest respect and admiration for our forefathers who paved the way for modern horsemanship.  We have tried to learn from their ancient techniques but adapt to the evolutionary changes each discipline has brought to the modern performance horse. We are well aware that ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL, whether you are talking about horses or riders.  As modern breeding programs tweak the conformation of their performance animals to perform well in their respective disciplines the Jerry Shaw Custom Saddle is also an evolutionary process.  We strive diligently to listen attentively and carefully to the needs, wants and desires of those we serve before a saddle’s construction is begun. As your needs change our designs and methods will change to accommodate your requirements.

We firmly believe that UTILITY and BEAUTY can co-exist in perfect harmony in the western saddle.  We try to combine unbridled beauty, unequalled quality of materials and workmanship, and the latest in style and class with unparalleled comfort for the horse and rider.  Each saddle is painstakingly crafted to achieve that perfect balance of form and function without sacrificing beauty. Although BEAUTIFUL doesn’t equate to BETTER, we’ve found that it doesn’t hurt for a saddle to be uniquely and distinctively gorgeous while being perfectly serviceable.

Please do not misunderstand, we can build a Plain Jane saddle but even then we want it to be flawlessly constructed, built of the finest of materials and evidence the handiwork of a skilled and talented craftsman.  Being plain is not excuse for shoddy or sloppy work and it won't be a part of anything that is shipped from our shop.

We want everyone who rides a Jerry Shaw Custom saddle to be able to ride with pride. . . and we'll do what it takes on this end to make that possible.

Chestnut Reining Saddle

Above all, our goal is QUALITY not QUANTITY and every aspect of our saddles is an example of un-compromised quality.  Just as the code of the cowboy in the Old West was to “always protect the brand” he rode for, each saddle that leaves our shop wears our brand, (my name) and is an ambassador of our reputation as a saddle maker.  Each is permanently stamped with my name and represents us in the arenas, the trails and the pastures for generations to come.  For that reason, the quality goes in it before my name goes on it.

And now for some questions we frequently hear. . .

Q.    "What kinds of saddles do you build?"

A.    We build western saddles for cowboys and cowgirls who ride, train, show or work performance type horses.  If you check out our SADDLES GALLERY you will see some of the saddles we have built in recent years including CUTTING SADDLES, REINING SADDLES, WORKING COW SADDLES, RANCH CUTTER SADDLES, WADE SADDLES, BARREL RACING SADDLES, SILVER SHOW SADDLES as well as saddles built for TRAIL AND PLEASURE.   These are by no means the only saddles we've built or the only type of saddles we've built.  We have simply tried to give you a sampling of our work so you can decide on the type or style of saddle you want.

Q.    "What kind of leather and materials to you use in construction of your saddles?"

A.     We have never had a customer accuse us of short changing them on the quality of materials that go into our high quality saddles.  Leather makes a difference in the cost, quality and life of a saddle.  For that reason we use the best American Tanned Leathers that money can buy.  Our choice is almost exclusively leathers from  HERMANN OAK LEATHER COMPANY or WICKETT & CRAIG LEATHER COMPANY OF AMERICA.  Both of these companies maintain the highest of standards for their products and we pay dearly for that, not just to dramatically increase our production costs but to provide you with the best and finest quality product that can be built.  We could use an inferior product, as many of our competitors do, and decrease our production costs dramatically but we refuse to take that route.  As long as the Jerry Shaw name goes on a saddle the quality of materials will be the best available.

One only has to open one of our Saddle Galleries to see the remarkable difference in the many colors and textures of our saddles as opposed to other makers whose saddles all look the same drab color.

We also use only American made trees.  And although we purchase trees from several companies to meet the needs of our customers, all the trees come with a minimum of five (5) years warranty.

Q.     "Do you have a Dealer's Program for those who wish to resell your saddles and tack?"

A.    Yes, we have several dealers who stock our saddles and tack items.  We'll be happy to discuss such arrangement with anyone who has a reseller's permit in the state where you live  and are willing to meet our volume requirement.  Call our office at (972) 562-6363  for details.
